I was tasked with updating the layout and design of a grade 12 math course (MAP4C) to the current TVO.me style guide. The following example is one section of a learning activity within a larger course.
The content in the original course contained the following issues:
accordion contained 17 tabs (maximum of eight tabs is ideal for learners)
one of the tab names was a question, while the rest were definitions of words
students were unable to check their understanding of the defined terms within the lesson.
The following image is the original course content prior to redesign, annotated to indicate three distinct blocks of definitions and the outlier question tab.
The revised design addressed the issues by:
chunking content into three groups of related terms with definitions
adding a reflection or a knowledge check after each group of terms
The following carousel contains the layout of the revised design of the original Mortgage terms and definitions section.
